Findley Lake, NY - While areas to the north around Buffalo received as much as two feet of lake-effect snow overnight, one ski resort in western New York is planning for a ski and snowboard Box and Rail Jam this weekend as part of its 19th Annual Fall Festival.
Peek'n Peak may have missed out on the potent lake effect bands, but they have a contingency plan in place. "If the weather is cold enough, they'll make snow for the Rail and Box Jam, a new addition to this annual event," explains resort spokesperson Jill Wodtley. "It would also be the first time they use their new $2 million snowmaking system expansion. Otherwise, plans call to make snow by putting 10 tons of ice in a wood chipper."
Peek'n Peak's Fall Festival will take place October 14-15 and October 21-22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Scheduled events include a craft show in the main lodge, a snow equipment sale in the Sugar'n Ouse, lift rides, the Findley Lake Nature Center Animal Display outside the Main Lodge, a farmer's market, horse-drawn carriage rides, and kids' events and activities.
Daily entertainment will be provided by a variety of family-friendly performers. On Sunday, October 15, a Classic Car Cruisen will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Food and beverages will also be sold. Admission and parking are free.
