Peek'n Peak Resort Celebrates 50 Years

FRENCH CREEK, N.Y. - This ski season marks the 50th anniversary of Peek'n Peak resort in French Creek, complete with a special commemorative logo to help celebrate.
"We've been through some good times and bad times. We're still here and going strong," said Brad Gravink, Peek'n Peak Director of  Mountain Operations.
Back in 2011, Scott Enterprises purchased the aging resort and spent millions in renovations and upgrades.
"Reinvesting in the resort and being operators of the resort and I've been here through all of it and it's really refreshing," said Gravink.
"Happy 50th Peek'n Peak. Teens, low 20's, no wind, sunny, it's going to be a great day," said Jonathan Summers of Pennsylvania.
Thousands of skiers and snowboarders from across the region took advantage of the better weather and hit the slopes.
"It's the opportunity to feel weightless, you're sliding, your covering all this terrain without any energy, and then you make a turn, the powder feels so soft," said Summers.
"It's wonderful especially for a place here in our area, its a nice place for us to come up and enjoy," said Nichole Summers of Pennsylvania.
The resort not only generates a lot of tax revenue for the area, it also employs about 1000 people in the winter.
Gravink says the anniversary season has been a good one, despite the recent arctic blast.
"It's definitely something that we're challenged by. If you dress properly and you've got your facemask and everything, goggles, layer up, you'll be just fine out here," said Gravink.
The resort will host a number of anniversary events throughout the year.
