MONTAGUE, N.Y. The lake effect is back in full swing in parts of western and central New York.Lake-effect snow starting blowing off the warm waters of Lake Erie yesterday and continue this morning, bringing up to two feet of snow to some areas of Chautauqua and Wyoming counties, with a foot-and-a-half in parts of Cattaraugus and southern Erie County.
High winds are blowing all that snow around in some communities, causing dangerous driving conditions. The Orleans County Sheriff's Department has issued a county-wide travel advisory, urging no unnecessary travel.
Lake-effect snow is also piling up in the Tug Hill Plateau, near the eastern end of Lake Ontario. So far the hamlet of Hooker in Lewis County has reported getting 33 inches of snow.
