Mother’s Day Poker Run around Chautauqua Lake

On Saturday, a Mother's Day Poker Run around Chautauqua Lake will be held, starting from the Nickel Plate Depot in Brocton. Motorcycle registration starts at 11 a.m., the run takes off at noon. Cost $15/driver and $5/passenger.

Blue Moon Management will present a free lineup of music on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., at The Sherman Hotel in Sherman, held in honor of the late Keith Flanders. Keith was best known as part of the Big Leg Emma Family for the past 6 years. This is an all-ages event until 9 p.m. — at that time anyone under 21 must be with a parent or legal guardian; proof must be shown at the door.

This event will feature, in order, the following musical acts: Shotgun Suite, Dirty Mountain Trio, Jerry Tanner/Lisa Gould (formerly of Blue Sky Mission Club), Tonya Byham Band (from Meadville,PA), The Bill Ward Band, Clarie Stuczynski (from Cleveland, Ohio) Tree House Tea Party (featuring T.R. McKotch, Rhonda Harp and Tara Eastman), The Goodfellas, Yankee Zydeco Company, The Recipe (from Morgantown, W. Va.) and host band Big Leg Emma. Special M.C. for the day will be Louie Ecker.

And while we're talking about Sherman, home of the Great Blue Heron Festival, Blue Heron is only 57 short days away (July 6, 7 and 8). If you already plan on spending the whole weekend there, you can still save a few bucks by buying pre-sale tickets now for $61, at www.reglenna.com or at Hollyloft in Jamestown. At the gate they will be $70. Outrageous! I thought hippies were all about free love and music and stuff?

n HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY — Happy Mother's Day, Mom! Also, Happy Mother's Day to my boyfriend's mom, who I definitely have to thank because of course he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her. And to all you other moms out there, too. Kids are really annoying, so you deserve a holiday.

If you totally forgot that it's Mother's Day on Sunday, it's not too late to buy her something nice — even if she says "I don't need anything," like my mom says when we ask her what she wants for every holiday; don't believe her. I suspect that they don't really mean that. It's like a test. Girls do that all the time. Do not be deceived.

Have a great week!
