5/10/2007 - In an effort to help those who struggle with juvenile diabetes, Jamestown Pediatric Associates will host an auction Saturday at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena.

''The auction promises to be a fun-packed event with proceeds going to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,'' said Terri Kindberg, event coordinator and auction chairwoman. ''Nearly everyone knows someone who has diabetes. We are asking them to come out and help us raise funds that will be used towards research to find a cure.''

Mrs. Kindberg said recent research has made a difference in people's lives by developing better treatments and making advances towards a cure.

''This proves that together we can make a difference,'' Mrs. Kindberg said.

The auction will begin at 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena. Gary Kindberg will serve as master of ceremonies and Cole Robbins will serve as auctioneer. There are more than 130 items to be auctioned during the event which include: a hot air balloon ride, New York City bus trip, introductory flight lessons, bed and breakfast packages, Amish furniture and quilts, hand-painted furniture, gourmet cooking classes and a Lazy Boy recliner.

Chinese and silent auctions will take place along with a 50/50 drawing. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Tickets for the event are $5, and may be purchased through Jamestown Pediatrics or at the door.

Jamestown Pediatrics has committed to raising $20,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and has already been busy with local fund-raisers. ''Hat Day'' was observed at Jefferson, Washington and Persell middle schools and more than $700 was raised.

The auction will be the final fundraising event before the annual Walk To Cure Diabetes on May 19 at Bergman Park. For more information, call 664-2589.
