Free Tax Help For Seniors Available
2/12/2007 - The Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons in cooperation with Chautauqua County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will provide free tax service to low to moderate income individuals, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Quality volunteer assistance will be offered in filing personal income taxes. Counselors can complete simple federal, state and real property tax credit (IT-214) forms and filing the new telephone excise refund.

When you meet with a tax aide, you must bring a valid picture identification, copes of all Forms W-2, 1098, 1099 and the amount of other income received by you and your spouse; information on deductions and credits; Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Number for the filer, filer’s spouse and others shown on the tax return; child and dependent care provider’s address, SSN, ITIN, Employer ID number or tax exempt status for children and Dependent Care Credit; Form 8332 or copy of a divorce decree for a non-custodial parent claiming a child; proof of account number and routing transit number of the financial institution for direct deposit slip; 2006 tax forms; Social Security numbers for everyone in the household; utility information and rent if filing an IT-214 form; and receipts or canceled checks for income or property taxes paid.

Counselors are not trained to do 1040 form schedule C for business income or a schedule E for Rental and Royalties.

The TCE Program ends April 15th. To schedule an appointment, call the RSVP Office at 665-3038 or the RSVP Office in Dunkirk at 366-8070.

RSVP will be taking appointments for the locations in the South County by calling 665-3038: Jamestown Senior Center, St. John’s Church Annex Building, Lutheran Social Services, 715 Falconer Street or the Lakewood Library.

To make an appointment for the YWCA of Westfield please call 366-8070. To make an appointment for Bemus Point Library please call 665-3038. North County locations are: Dunkirk Senior Center, Town of Pomfret OFA and Bell Tower Complex. To make an appointment at a North County location please call 366-8070.
