Brocton gears up for Fall Community Festival

9/5/2006 - The Brocton-Portland Business Association of Brocton will be sponsoring the Brocton Fall Community Festival on Sept. 9 and recently received approval from Village of Brocton officials to proceed with plans. The event is planned to raise funds for Ryckman Park Playground Equipment Fund.

“We as business owners, believe that it is vital to promote positive activity to help build pride in our community,” said Diane Ringer, of the association.

Attic and Sellar Days are planned for Sept. 8 and 9. There is a $5 fee for those wishing to be listed on the sales map.

A 2.5 mile “Community Unity Walk” will begin with sign-up at 9 a.m. at the village clerks office on Main Street Saturday and the $10 fee includes an event t-shirt.

In addition to listed events, all other events are free and there will be Antiques and Eats all day and bounce houses. Programs for families and children will be sponsored by the Chautauqua County Sheriffs Department.

Brocton Fire Department will hold an emergency extraction exhibition. An automobile paint, smash and blow-up is also planned.

The band, Big Leg Emma, will be on hand to provide music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the street dance. StrayKatz Karaoke will be on location providing music throughout the day.

At 1 p.m. will be the Main Street Parade beginning at Brocton Central School and ending at the Brocton Fire Hall on Lake Avenue. Participating performance groups will perform under the Centennial Arches at the center of town.

Registration for the Hot dog and Wing Eating contests may be done the day of the event.

There are many items for the Chinese Auction, the 50/50 drawing will be done at 8 p.m. and a special drawing for a Harley Davidson Clock is also planned. Drawing tickets are available through any association member or at their respective businesses.

Businesses or individuals interested in participating, volunteering or needing more information may contact coordinators Diane Ringer (792-9930), Ed Woods (792-4483) or Al Seavy (679-8484), Phil Giambra (792-6757). Kathy Brown-Weber is the Children’s Activity coordinator (792-4321).

Pre-Registration forms for the Community Unity Walk, Attic and Sellar Days, and Cruise In may obtained at the village clerks office on Main Street, Woods Repair, St. Stephen’s Hotel, Al Seavy Automotive, Bread Box, Town of Portland office, and Cups N’Cones.

The food menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, a chicken barbeque, barbecued pulled-pork, sausage and the full bar menu will be available.

Businesses supporting the event will be included on all t-shirts and festival related printed materials and promotions.

Monetary donations for the playground may also be sent to the All Community Festival Fund c/o Community Bank, 19 East Main Street, Brocton.
